Purchased in October 2004, this is our first home and I extremely enjoy working on it and ‘living in it. This page will document some of the projects and phases of the house.
2008 Nursery Project
It's about time to get the nursery ready! The furniture has been finished (2 dressers and a tall chest) and the walls are painted. Now it's time finish the laminate flooring, paint the trim, then do all the misc stuff.
2007 House Painting (Exterior)
What a huge project! With a little help from my neighbor Mike, I started painting the entire exterior of the house. I tried to keep his Little Giant ladder, but he isn't easily fooled. Dang! As the project sits (and will continue to sit until Fall when it cools down) I am about 90% through at least the base coat on everything.
2007 Landscaping
All of the mulched areas around my house are piled too high and spill over onto the driveway, etc. I began digging it all out, putting in edging to contain them and bed liner to prevent weeds from growing. I also added a rock wall along the back porch and put a rabbit fence underneath to hopefully discourage any more groundhogs from moving in under there!
2007 Snow
Just a few pics from a snow storm we had in early 2007.
2005 Hot Tub Deck
After spring cleaning away leaves and trimming branches, my brothers got fired up on the idea of building a deck. Who could say no to a deck that only sets you back the cost of materials (and a few beverages)? We argued about the best way to attack it, then we began construction. The deck only took two days to build with their help, and is an incredible addition to the existing patio/deck. Once it is painted, it will look nearly seamless with the existing deck. The deck came out far better than I imagined it would, Mat and Tim did an awesome job! I'm sure we'll get tons of usage from the deck, seeing as though we put an extreme amount of mileage on the hot tub weekly. ;)
2005 Spring Cleanup
Good 'ol spring cleanup. Being the first summer at the house, there was no shortage of things to do outside. We tamed the overdone (and conveniently let-go) landscaping done by previous owners and planted some grass. "Tillmeister R" (my dad) tilled it for us. Mulch was loaded into the Jetta and brought back to be spread out. Overall, not a bad improvement for our first stab at it.
2004 Refinish Floors
After checking the condition of the hardwood underneath, we decided to refinish the floors in those two bedrooms as well as the hallway and dining room. We ripped out the carpet and padding and began pulling staples. Then it was time for the fun part sanding. After WAY too many hours sanding, the mess was cleaned up and the floors were stained "Red Oak" the following day. A few coats of Polyurethane later and the project was a success. A big thanks to Mat for help sanding, and to Colin for staining and polyurethaning.
2004 Paint 2 Bedrooms (main floor)
The first day we got the keys to the house, we decided to do some painting and remove the hideous carteting in two bedrooms. The rooms obviously belonged to little girls previously, they were baby blue and nauseating pink. Not in my house! My brothers, Mat and Tim Truex, Kristina Barrows and the wife Yamilet (Luna) had a painting party. Turned out to be a good time. Thanks to Kristina Barrows for the pics.
How It Looked Pre-Truex
This is how the house looked during the walk-through before we purchased it. We actually passed by the house several times, but for some reason I didn't giv eup on it. After getting tired of being let-down by houses on the market we scheduled a walk-through on this one. We loved it, and now it's ours!
