Misc Progress
I was able to get a lot of work done Labor Day weekend. I installed the Hella air horns and compressor (without the positive wire yet), pulled all the wiring from the Golf, installed the ecu into the rado, etc. I also began preparing to lower the kframe/subframe from both vehicles with the control arms, power steering rack, wheels, brakes, tie rods, etc all intact as a whole unit. Pics of that coming in the next update!
Sunroof Switcheroo
I wanted to swap out the solid panel sunroof for a sliding glass moonroof unit. This was actually a lot easier than I had expected!
Shifter Swap
I had to remove the shifter setup from both the VR Golf and the Corrado. I needed to use the lines, shifter and bracket from the VR and place them into the Corrado shifter housing box. The MKIII housing differs in that on the front side it has a threaded post on top which bolts from the interior, whereas the Corrado housing has four bolts secured from below.
Lots of Engine Bay
I've been cleaning out the Corrado engine bay and removed the wiring harness, shifter box as well as pulled the VR6 from the Golf. Making progress!
The VR6 Swap Begins!
Teardown has begun, both cars in the garage and the front clips removed. With the help of Brian Lui we began removing the G60 motor to make way for the beastly VR6. Time to clean up that engine bay!
New Project - 1990 VW Corrado G60!!!
Yes, its a G60 — but the motor won't be in it for more than a few weeks. It will be the proud new home of my VR6 motor and donor parts from my Golf project. These are the first few pics of what I'm sure will turn into quite a fun project.
Robs 1996 VW Golf GL VR6
You can't forget my good 'ol Golf, the one I am robbing of parts (VR6 motor, transmission, 5 lug conversion and brakes, etc) for this new project. I certainly had a lot of great times with this car and met lots of vw friends. Click here for the VW Golf project page.
